In the service-based space, self-awareness is everything. Whether you’re the service provider or the client, taking a step back to reflect on how you’re showing up is crucial. It’s all about accountability—on both sides. Let’s break it down.
Service Providers
If you’re the one offering services, be it coaching, mentoring, or something else, it’s important to assess whether you’re truly delivering on your promises. Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
Are you fulfilling everything stated in the contract? This might seem like a no-brainer, but contracts are there for a reason. Are you showing up the way you promised?
Is your client getting the access, time, and support you agreed to? If your contract states regular check-ins or one-on-one calls, are you sticking to that schedule?
Are you maintaining your side of the relationship? Beyond just meeting contract obligations, are you fostering a relationship of trust, support, and open communication?
As service providers, it’s easy to fall into autopilot mode. But your clients are investing in you. Make sure you’re living up to that.
Clients
Now, let’s flip the script. As a client, it’s just as important to ask yourself whether you’re really showing up for your own success. Here are a few tough but necessary questions:
Are you showing up for your own business? You’ve hired a service provider to help you, but are you taking the reins and doing the work?
Are you meeting deadlines and providing what’s needed?Things like copy, images, and other materials are critical for your service provider to help you effectively. Are you delivering them on time?
Are you taking action on the feedback you’re given? It’s easy to ask a lot of questions, but are you implementing the guidance, or are you hoping for a different answer?
Are you showing up to calls and guest expert sessions? If you’re not showing up for the opportunities your service provider is offering, are you really engaging with the process?
Who’s doing more work in the relationship? This one is big. A healthy client-provider relationship is balanced. If you’re expecting your provider to do the heavy lifting, it’s time to rethink that.
Accountability Is Key—For Both Sides
For me, if a client doesn’t want to take accountability for their own business, that’s not my responsibility to fix. I run my own business and support you in running yours, but I don’t run yours for you. The same goes if you’re a potential client who isn’t getting the support you need from your current service provider. That’s not something I can change for you either. What I can do is continue to grow, expand, and evolve—just like my clients do. And when you’re ready to step up, I’ll be here, ready to support you.
Whether you’re a service provider or a client, ask yourself: how are you showing up right now? Are you taking responsibility for your role? Because ultimately, success depends on both parties giving their best.
