How to Fix a Failing Business

Let’s get real for a second. Business is changing. The way people buy is changing. Clients are ghosting, disappearing, backing out after saying yes—you name it. And if you’ve been feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or even a little disheartened, you’re not alone.
I see it. I hear it. I experience it too.
How we respond to this shift MATTERS, and I want to have a brutally honest conversation with you about it. Because the last thing I want to do is feed into toxic positivity and tell you to “just think happy thoughts and everything will change.” No, we’re going to talk about real, actionable shifts that will help you stay strong and move forward in your business with confidence.
The Hard Truth
If you’re feeling like your business is being built on quicksand—unstable, unpredictable, and constantly shifting—let’s take a step back. Here’s why that's happening:
Clients are changing their minds more than ever before.
Payments are being defaulted on, made late, or avoided entirely.
People are saying “yes” and then disappearing.
Business owners are lowering their standards just to make a sale.
Sound familiar?
Here’s what I want you to know: lowering your standards is NOT the answer. The answer is RAISING THEM.
Boundaries & Contracts
One of the biggest issues right now is that personal and professional relationships are getting blurred. And when that happens, business owners feel guilty enforcing contracts.
Listen to me carefully:
A contractual agreement is not personal—it’s professional.
You are allowed to uphold your contracts without guilt.
Lowering your standards to accommodate clients who don’t honor their commitments helps NO ONE.
If we keep letting this cycle continue, we’re not just hurting our own businesses—we’re enabling bad behavior in the industry as a whole. When one person doesn’t uphold their commitment, it creates a domino effect:
They back out or ghost.
You feel the financial strain.
You lower your prices or bend your boundaries.
You attract more clients who do the same thing.
The cycle repeats.
How to Shift This in Your Business Right Now
When business feels tough, the answer isn’t to make things easier for people who aren’t honoring commitments. The answer is to:
RAISE your standards, not lower them.
ENFORCE your contracts, not bend them.
ATTRACT high-caliber clients by refusing to accommodate low-caliber behavior.
COMMUNICATE clearly with clients who are struggling, but don’t take responsibility for their choices.
Let’s flip the mirror for a second. If you’re the one who has backed out of commitments, ghosted, or tried to negotiate your way out of a contract—take a moment to reflect. You can’t expect your business to be built with integrity if you’re not showing up with integrity.
